Embassy of Finland in Tokyo will open its doors to the general public for the first time on Sunday, April 14th to celebrate the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Finland. Visitors will be able to enjoy Finnish culture, tradition and fun within the Embassy compound. Registration starts from the below link on March 25th. Children are most welcome to attend our family event!
The admission-free event is co-organized by the Embassy of Finland, the Finnish Institute in Japan, Business Finland and the Finnish Chamber of Commerce in Japan. The event opens at 10:30, and closes at 17:00. There will be outdoor program starting at 11:00 and 14:00, along with indoor workshops, exhibitions and sauna “löyly” experience. Also tastes of Finnish food and beverages (limited amount only) and design products will be on sale.

■Registration: please register from the below link. We will limit the number of visitors due to limited space. Please choose the time range “10:30-14:00” or “14:00-17:00” that you plan to come to the event (basically you can come and leave whenever you like. We’re asking this beforehand to estimate the number of visitors). If you’re coming with a companion, please also register his/her name.

Identical performances include kantele, air guitar, folk dance, modern dance, artist talk, reading poetry, etc. Some of the confirmed performers include: Eva Alkula & Tomoya Nakai, Vilma Timonen, Salla Ketonen, Ville Valkonen, Marianne Backalén, Miiko Toiviainen

Capacity: 40 seats per session
-making Finnish traditional craft “Himmeli”
Time: 11:00 (takes 5 hours to complete)
Capacity: 20 seats
-introduction to lace making (can try out for few minutes)

Visitors can see “löyly,” the vapor that arises by pouring water on the hot stones, inside the 1st floor sauna for Embassy employees (can’t actually bathe in sauna). For those who’d like to actually get in and bathe in “Ambassador’s sauna” on the 2nd floor, please check the box in the registration form and 20 lucky ones (10 women and 10 men in separate groups) will get the chance by lottery. They will be notified beforehand by email; please bring your own towels and other necessary items.

■Food, beverages and design products
Visitors will be able to enjoy a taste of Finnish food and beverages (amount on sale is limited, we advise people to eat proper lunches outside). Finnish design products will also be on sale.
There will be demonstrations of ikebana and Nordic flower arrangement, virtual (VR) tour of Helsinki, Finland’s first motorcycle racing World Champion “Flying Finn” Jarno Saarinen’s exhibition, experiencing food prepared by Finnish chef, and much more!
