To commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Finland and Japan as well as the grand opening of Moominvalley Park, the first exhibition to be held in the Kokemus special exhibition area, “Tove Jansson and the Moomins“.
The exhibition will focus on the life and career of the Moomins’ creator Tove Jansson (1914-2001) by introducing how she grew up and took on the path to become an artist, the change of Moomin’s appearance and the various types of work she did as an artist. Also, in the spirit of ‘beginning’ of the Moominvalley Park, a feature called “the first Moomin _____” displays a valuable collection of around 70 items of the first Moomin products and projects, including confectionery, dolls, textiles, stage plays, books, and other various items.
The two study pieces Tove did in 1956 for the Aurora Children’s Hospital wall mural she was commissioned by the City of Helsinki, which is also reproduced on the staircase wall descending from the third floor, will also be borrowed from Finland to be on display for half a year respectively.
