This exhibition, entitled “Two Homes―Japan and Finland,” shows art works by Kiyoshi Isii expressing his heart-felt admiration of the beauties in both countries in celebration of the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Finland. His initial encounter with his second home dates back to the time when he travelled in Finland during his college years at the Musashino Art University. Over the four decades since then he has repeated his visit to the country and developed deep appreciation of its nature and people. The Ishii’s works to be exhibited include those in pastel, oil paint, water color, and prints with pastel colorings. Through this exhibition, we hope to offer opportunity to rediscover scenic beauties of both countries. . .We sincerely hope that you will enjoy the exhibition. In some venues there will be an event featuring the artist, in which Mr. Ishii will produce a piece in pastel in about 15 minutes accompanied by a tune composed by Sibelius.
