Event Type:

Concert

Location:

Tokyo

Event Description

Maestro Pietari Inkinen and Japan Philharmonic Orchestra first met each other in April 2008 with the performance of Jean Sibelius’s tone poem En Saga. Maestro and JPO hit it off immediately, becoming JPO’s Principal Guest Conductor in 2009 and Chief Conductor in September 2016. Maestro Inkinen and JPO will feature music of Finnish composers in the year of 2019, celebrating the centennial of Finland-Japan diplomatic relationship. At the Tokyo Subscription Concerts, the program includes Sibelius’ Lemminkäinen Suite, Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Violin Concerto. Salonen is one of the world’s top conductors and also of the most esteemed composers. For this special occasion, we will invite world’s renowned violinist, Akiko Suwanai. Program in the Yokohama Subscription Concert is all Sibelius’s program. The orchestra invites a Finnish renowned violinist, Pekka Kuusisto for the violin concerto. The 5th Symphony, a piece written for the composer’s own 50th birthday celebration, embodies Finland’s pride and its beautiful nature.
