Two countries celebrate the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Japan in 2019: Poland and Finland. Both countries are located in high latitudes, much up north than the northern most part of Hokkaido. The nights are long in winter times, and perhaps that may be one reason why art and culture indoors such as literature and film flourished in these countries. In this exhibition, 23 artworks by five artists from Poland and Finland will be shown from the museum’s collection. Finland : a home of epic and saga. Poland : where various illustrated books were published in time of socialism. We hope that visitors will enjoy each work created for picture books in this exhibition.
