Since the town had declared “the Town of Photography” about 30 years ago, “the Culture Capital of Photography”, Higashikawa aims to make the town with good balance of nature and culture for the future. As the center of photo culture for people across the world, we organize this festival to encourage students to develop friendship through photo culture and promote international understanding.
Specifically, we will be looking for works of high school students from 20 countries and areas where we currently have established international exchanges. The selection will be held in each country and area and works will be selected by photographers and other specialists in the field. The selected schools, consisting of three students and one teacher, will participate in the 4th International High School Students’ Photo Festival Exchange held in Higashikawa. Three selected domestic schools will also participate in the festival.
All participants will have photo session tour around Higashikawa. They will have Japanese language lessons and Japanese cultural experiences as well as international exchange through photography during the festival.
We would like to promote international exchange through photo culture by showcasing the beautiful nature of Daisetsuzan National Park to students and visitors, as well as international students studying Japanese language at the Educational Foundation Hokko Gakuen and Higashikawa Japanese Language School, which is the first municipal Japanese language school in Japan.
Higashikawa town has been in contact with Kangasala city, Finland.
